Inna Studio One Old Skool Roots Reggae - MixTape

This is dedicated to my love of 70s old skool roots reggae as championed by Sir Coxsone Dodd, founder of the Motown of Jamaica, Studio One who had literally every great artist pass through from Bob Marley to John Holt, Horace Andy to Lee Scratch Perry. Their artists in turn went on to inspire the next generation so if it wasn't for this label perhaps hip hop, soul, jungle, electronic music, trip hop, dubstep, etc wouldn't even exist or at least wouldn't be anywhere near as good. All hail King Dodd! Now this is not a definitive mix, there are literally hundreds of songs I could have used. This is just me dipping my toes in their water and tipping my hat to legends.

Watching the BBC 4 documentary on Skinheads on Friday night made me want to get the old records dusted off so here’s what’s left from my collection, the very very best early Reggae from 68 onwards, and what do you know, it turns out that it’s probably the best compilation of real Skinhead Reggae that I’ve ever put together! The Funkiest Reggae and Ska mix of all time! - MixTape

These are some of the funkiest Rocksteady, Reggae, Ska and songs influenced by those movements in my record collection. To me, nothing is more uplifting than Jamaican music. When it is infused with American Soul and R&B it makes for the perfect summer party mix! Expect to hear a very young Bob Marley, some great Ska covers of everything from classic Motown to Radiohead and some super funky original tracks too.
Turn it up!

BOSS SKA, SKINHEAD REGGAE & ROCKSTEADY KILLA'S - MixTape

Thanks for taking the time to stop by & listen to my first attempt at a DJ mix!! Having only owned decks now for a few weeks, I thought the best first step would be to get the music I like down & get it out there! These tunes are all original JA Reggae 7" singles, predominantly 1968 - 1972 so I make no apologies for the crackles & pops - that's what makes it authentic! I hope you agree.

So, if you are a DJ, please let me know what you think - good or bad. If being a similar lover of good music, then tell me what you think & what you would have liked to have heard differently. If you really like it - please share with your mates!! I would love to eventually DJ to more than my front room wall.
